SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE
Known as the "coat hanger".Opened March 19, 1932. It took nine years to build. Its arch spans 503m, the top is 134m above the water. Weighs 52,800 tonnes. There are eight vehicle lanes, two train lines, a footway and a cycleway. 200,000 vehicles cross daily. Toll for cars $3. There is now a Harbour Tunnel, opened Aug 31, 1992, which shares the bridge traffic. The BridgeClimb Tours depart from 5 Cumberland Street, The Rocks. A three and a half hour adventure that will take you to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, 134 metres above sea level. BridgeClimb operates in all weather conditions except electrical storms (alternative times will be arranged.) All necessary outfits will be provided, including safety harness. Handrails are there for support. 12-16 year olds must be accompanied by a full paying adult. Bookings are essential. Tickets are non-refundable.
