Queensland, the Sunshine State.
"Beautiful one day, perfect the next".
Located in north-eastern Australia, it is the second largest state. More than half of Queensland lies above the Tropic of Capricorn. With its magnificent coastline, endless kilometres of sandy beaches, national park forests, vast plains, lush tropical rainforests in the far north, forested mountains and massive wilderness areas, and the natural wonder that is the Great Barrier Reef, it is Australia's No 1 tourist destination. Its tourist centre is at the Gold Coast.
Its capital is Brisbane on the east coast, on the banks of the Brisbane River, with a population of about 1.5 million (population for Queensland is nearly 3.5 million).
